Today, I will share an easy recipe for making Mitarashi Dango, a famous Japanese dessert, at home.

Ingredients

  • Glutinous rice flour: 150g
  • Hot water: 100g
  • Cooking oil
  • Soy sauce: 4 tablespoons
  • Mirin: 2 tablespoons
  • Sugar: 4 tablespoons
  • Cornstarch: 1 tablespoon
  • Water: 100g


Instructions

  1. Mix the following ingredients to form a dough, then shape it into small balls:

    • Glutinous rice flour: 150g
    • Hot water: 100g

  2. Place the dough in a steamer and steam for 15 minutes, then immediately transfer it to ice water.

  3. Skewer the dango onto sticks and grill them over a fire:

    • Cooking oil (for grilling)

    If you prefer, you can use an air fryer at 190°C (375°F) for 10 minutes to make the outside crispy.

  4. In a pan, combine the following ingredients and simmer on low heat to make the syrup:

    • Soy sauce: 4 tablespoons
    • Mirin: 2 tablespoons
    • Sugar: 4 tablespoons
    • Cornstarch: 1 tablespoon
    • Water: 100g

  5. Brush the syrup evenly over the grilled dango, and it’s ready to serve!
